The tRUNsylvania International 10K, part of ”Brasov Running Festival”, has received the Elite Label certification for the 2024 edition. Furthermore, it stands as the sole 10km Elite Label race in Europe currently enlisted on the global World Athletics calendar. The competition aims to maintain its status among the top 10 most esteemed road races worldwide for yet another year.
With success achieved over the past two years, global recognition, and promotion in over 142 countries, the tRUNsylvaniaInternational 10K has earned its status as the ideal race for athletes striving for excellence. As a key part of the Brasov Running Festival, the competition has once again received the Elite Label certification for the year 2024, imposing a high standard of performance and extremely rigorous organizational conditions. Currently, the tRUNsylvania International 10K stands as the sole 10-kilometer race in Europe with an Elite Label status listed in the 2024 World Athletics calendar. While nine other European races enjoy this status, they are marathons and half-marathons.
”We aim for the Brasov Running Festival to become one of the most important troad running events in Europe and to have a complete sports show, through the massive presence of world-class runners. The 2023 edition garnered significant media interest and enjoyed unprecedented coverage. Moreover, Brașov Running Festival also hosted the 5KNational Championship made in partnership with the Romanian Athletics Federation, and this year we want to organize the 10K National Championship. Because we were so close in the previous edition, we want to be part of a world record attempt again", stated Daniel Santa, director of the Brasov Running Festival competition.
The benefits of Elite Label recertification for performance athletes
The Elite Label certification represents recognition of the high standards set by World Athletics for athletic competitions to ensure a top experience for elite athletes, as well as an extremely high level of performance. Thus, the tRUNsylvania International 10K has proven to meet the rigorous criteria set by World Athletics, being evaluated based on course, organization, services provided to runners, and the participation of world-class athletes.
According to the organizers, professional athletes from Romania and abroad who aim to compete in the tRUNsylvania International 10K race, between September 21-22, 2024, will benefit from significant prizes aligned with the level of competition, as well as special bonuses for any national, continental, or world records set. Additionally, this reconfirmation positions the tRUNsylvania International 10K race as a Category C competition, in which World Rankings points are awarded, with results being sanctioned and accepted by World Athletics.
tRUNsylvania International 10K - a race of records, even in 2024
If last year Agnes Jebet Ngetich, the current world record holder in athletics, finished the race in a record time of 29:24, but the performance could not be ratified, the competition organizers expect her to attempt once again to establish the best performance ever in a 10KM race exclusively for women in 2024. Agnes will most likely be in close competition with other top athletes from Kenya and Ethiopia, but also with Joan Chelimo Melly and Stella Rutto, the athletes recently naturalized in Romania.
”We really want the world record for the event, which we came so close to last year, but we won’t judge the success of the competition on that alone. We want, first of all, a sports show and to give the chance to as many professional athletes as possible, as well as amateurs, to set new records. I think that after last year's surprise, this time Agnes Ngetich will have serious competition, because there will be many other top sportswomen who will want to participate in the competition. The 4th edition is sure to be an event of great proportions and we are excited to reveal which athletes will line up at the start. Certainly, however, among them will be protagonists of the Olympic Games in Paris", added Daniel Santa.
The Brasov Running Festival aims to cultivate competitive spirit also within the 10K race for men, alongside the previous edition's winner, Weldon Langat, who convincingly clinched victory with one of the fastest times of the year, 27:05.
The next edition of Brasov Running Festival is scheduled for September 21-22, 2024, taking place in the Coresi neighborhood, Brașov – a city ranked 21st in the 'Top 25 Preferred Destinations in the World in 2024,' according to TripAdvisor. This fact gives hope to the organizers that numerous amateur athletes from abroad will also line up at the start.

About Brașov Running Festival
The Brasov Running Festival is the most significant athletic event in the World Athletics calendar in Southeastern Europe. Organized in Brasov since2021, the competition features an annual 10 km road race accredited with the World Athletics Elite Label, titled the 'tRUNsylvania International 10K'. Beyond this, the running festival includes a multitude of other races catering to amateurs, children, as well as professionals.
The courses are conducted on a loop with a length of 3.494 m, using thesame finish line but with starting points varying based on the length of the stage.
